Privacy Policy

TerraSignal is an earthquake monitoring and alert app. It helps you monitor earthquake activity near the places you care about, including saved Watch Zones, selected locations, and optional location-based distance estimates.

We designed TerraSignal to collect as little personal information as practical. No account is required to use the app.

1. Information We Collect

Watch Zones and Alert Preferences

When you create Watch Zones or configure alert settings, the app stores information such as:

• Watch Zone name
• Approximate center location of the zone
• Alert radius
• Minimum alert magnitude
• Alert preferences including quiet hours, critical alerts, source preferences, and notification settings

Some of this information may be sent to the TerraSignal server so we can deliver server-side push notifications for earthquakes that match your saved alert settings.

Device Push Token

If you enable notifications, Apple provides TerraSignal with an Apple Push Notification service token. We send this token to our server so we can deliver earthquake alerts to your device.

A push token is used only for notifications. It is not used to identify you personally, track you across apps, or sell your data.

Optional Location Data

Location access is optional. If you allow location access, TerraSignal may use your device location to:

• Show distance from your current location to an earthquake
• Help create or update a Watch Zone
• Display distance labels such as "distance from home" or "distance from current location"

You can also use TerraSignal without granting location access by creating Watch Zones manually or dropping a pin. TerraSignal does not sell your location data.

Diagnostics

If diagnostics are enabled, TerraSignal may collect limited technical information to help improve app performance, reliability, and alert delivery. This may include:

• App version
• Device type and operating system version
• Basic performance information
• Error logs or crash-related data
• Alert delivery and debug status

Diagnostics are used to improve TerraSignal and are not intended to identify you personally.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

TerraSignal does not require the following, and we do not collect it:

TerraSignal does not sell personal information. TerraSignal does not use your data for third-party advertising or cross-app tracking.

3. How We Use Information

We use information only to provide and improve TerraSignal, including to:

• Show earthquake activity near your selected areas
• Send push notifications for matching Watch Zone alerts
• Display distance from saved or current locations
• Improve app reliability and performance
• Diagnose alert delivery issues
• Prevent duplicate or stale push notifications
• Improve source accuracy and event matching

4. Push Notifications

If you enable notifications, TerraSignal may send alerts about earthquakes that match your Watch Zone and alert preferences.

Push notifications are delivered through Apple Push Notification service. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings or inside TerraSignal where available.

If your device token becomes invalid, TerraSignal may mark it inactive or remove it from our server to avoid sending alerts to stale devices.

5. Third-Party Data Sources

TerraSignal displays earthquake, tsunami, and hazard-related information from official and public data sources. These may include, but are not limited to:

• U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
• Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC)
• NOAA tsunami warning sources, including PTWC and NTWC
• Other public seismic or hazard data sources as added over time

TerraSignal does not control these third-party sources and cannot guarantee that their data will always be available, complete, or error-free.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We may share limited information only when necessary to operate TerraSignal, such as:

• Sending push notification tokens and alert preferences to our server
• Using Apple Push Notification service to deliver alerts
• Processing diagnostics or crash information to improve the app
• Complying with legal requirements if required by law

We do not share your information with advertisers or data brokers.

7. Data Retention

TerraSignal keeps server-side push notification information only as long as needed to provide alerts and maintain reliable delivery. Stale or invalid push tokens may be marked inactive or removed.

Data stored locally on your device — such as preferences and saved zones — remains on your device unless it is needed for server-side alert delivery or unless you delete the app or change your settings.

You can control your information by:

• Disabling location access in iOS Settings
• Disabling notifications in iOS Settings
• Editing or deleting Watch Zones
• Changing alert preferences inside TerraSignal
• Turning diagnostics off where available

TerraSignal is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to TerraSignal, contact us at privacy@terrasignal.app and we will take appropriate action.

TerraSignal may be used in multiple countries. By using TerraSignal, you understand that information may be processed in the United States or other locations where our service providers operate.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date and may provide notice in the app or on our website.
